A virtual integration—The management control system in a multinational enterprise

2008

Abstract This paper draws on actor-network-theory, especially Law and Hassard [Law, J., Hassard, J. (Eds.), 1999. Actor Network Theory and After. Blackwell, Malden, MA] and Latour [Latour, B., 2005. Reassembling the Social. An Introduction to the Actor-Network-Theory. Oxford University Press, Oxford] to investigate how a division-wide management control system was created in a multinational enterprise. The empirical findings were gathered from different actors involved in the implementation of enterprise's ABC and ERP projects. Our study focuses on the ontological politics [Mol, A.-M., 1999. Ontological politics. A word and some questions. In: Law, J., Hassard, J. (Eds.), Actor Network Theo…

Enterprise System Implementation in a Franchise Context: An Action Case Study

2015

Abstract This research paper reports on a study focusing on a franchise relationship that utilizes an enterprise system (ES) to optimize its supply chain. The ES is in its post-implementation phase; however, the franchisee has challenges with inventory management due to poor data quality, which causes problems with vendor analysis and revenue control. An action case study was carried out to identify and diagnose the source of the problem, and interventions were implemented and evaluated. The findings demonstrate that several of the challenges related to poor data quality in the supply chain were influenced by problems of a socio-technical character. These included a lack of understanding of…

Systemic Management of Architectural Decisions in Enterprise Architecture Planning. Four Dimensions and Three Abstraction Levels

2006

This paper presents a process model for the management of architectural decisions in enterprise architecture planning. First, decisions are made at the enterprise level, with strategic business considerations on the enterprise information, systems and technology strategy and governance issues. The next step is to define the domains, to then go on with domain architecture decisions. At the systems level, the enterprise and domain architecture decisions are collected and converted into architecture descriptions accurate in precision, form and detail to be given as input to the information systems development process, following the architectural planning. The model is derived from previous wor…

INTEGRATED SYSTEMS FOR PLANNING AND RESOURCES MANAGEMENT IN COMPANIES

2014

Information is one of the most valuable resources of a company, since with it and around it the whole set of business processes unfold within companies. Till using internet companies were eager to find information that was necessary for the functioning and development of the company; now things have changed radically: the information is abundant and is provided through all possible channels; today, in order to thrive you have to „choose" and to filter the information to remain competitive on the market you are active on. The performance of an enterprise is influenced by its ability to adapt itself to the environment, by the effectiveness of its actions in capitalizing opportunities, by its …
